New Subclade Announcement: E-BY142197

Connected to our work on the E-Z36149 Geographic Census, we are happy to announce the establishment of two new subclades within E-Z36149, the first being E-BY142197. This subclade is technically downstream E-BY20365, although the phylogenetic importance of that SNP is not yet determined.

As always, we appreciate our subclade-defining members for helping us in this discovery, this time with two Big Y testers and one SNP tester. Many thanks!

It is a single-SNP subclade, defined by the SNP BY142197. This may change when another Y-700 or WGS test is added to the subclade.

E-BY142197 looks to be the oldest known subclade of E-Z36149, with a TMRCA of c. 650 ybp, which is the same as its phylogenetic parent and grandparent. It is unlikely that it is quite that old, given that some generations would have had to exist between E-Z36149 and E-BY142197's respective MRCAs, but we can assume that this was an early split-off from the root.

The subclade is associated primarily with the project subgroup A80, and secondarily with A50, which likely has some BY142197+ members pending confirmation.

The defining members of this subclade and their closest matches hold to a very strong pattern, with all known ancestor locations being from the historical regions of Galitzia and Podolia, particularly hugging the Carpathian mountains. Given that E-Z36149's MRCA likely lived in the Rhineland, we have to assume that if this subclade is so old and still so centralized in these regions, their MRCA may have been one of the earliest Ashkenazi Jews in the area. If not, this would be multiple West > East migrations to the same general area, avoiding the regions to the North-east in their entirety.

Our next steps into this subclade include:
1) Getting more predicted members confirmed BY142197+.
2) Finding the outstanding genealogical info to see if the current pattern holds.
3) Determine if any downstream subclades exist between the members on FTDNA.

Thank you for your support of our project, and stay tuned for multiple more subclade announcements!
