New Subclade Announcement: E-FT120075

We are excited to announce the establishment of this surprise subclade by YFull! This SNP has united two existing subclades downstream E-A12313/A12255 together under a new level, not previously known in the phylogeny. These two subclades are E-A19388 and E-A20729/Y134153, and now the level E-FT120075 exists between them and E-A12313/A12255. Furthermore, a third line, E-FT120075*, exists on FTDNA.  Thanks to our upgraders from Big Y-500 to the Big Y-700 test, as it was the increased coverage of that test that uncovered this new level of the phylogeny.  It is a single-SNP subclade, defined by the SNP FT120075. That said, all members have the DYS385=17-17 value, so for now that value is phyloequivalent with FT120075.  This subclade is approximately 400 years old (600 - 175 ybp @ 95% confidence), being around a century younger than its parent E-A12313/A12255. This date corresponds perfectly with known historical population growth for Ashkenazi Jews in Central and Easter...

New Subclade Announcement: E-A22300

After a long while, we are finally able to announce the establishment of the subclade E-A22300 on YFull! This subclade is downstream E-Z36149, technically also downstream E-BY20365.  E-A22300 has been established on YFull by two Big Y testers, as well as a sample from PGP, an open-source scientific initiative. Many thanks to these individuals for their help! It is a three-SNP subclade, defined equally by having the SNPs A22300, A22301, and A22302.  This subclade is one of the youngest on YFull, with an estimated TMRCA of only 150 ybp (475 - 75 ybp @ 95% confidence). Considering there is a genealogy in the lineage traced to the early 18th century in Germany, the TMRCA has to be at least 300 ybp. Given the historical narrative, as well as multiple WAJ members of this subclade, we predict that the MRCA of this subclade lived somewhere in modern Germany, specifically the Rhineland.  E-A22300 is associated with group A00 in the project subgrouping here . If your kit is in this...

New Subclade Announcement: E-BY142197

Connected to our work on the E-Z36149 Geographic Census, we are happy to announce the establishment of two new subclades within E-Z36149, the first being E-BY142197. This subclade is technically downstream E-BY20365, although the phylogenetic importance of that SNP is not yet determined.  As always, we appreciate our subclade-defining members for helping us in this discovery, this time with two Big Y testers and one SNP tester. Many thanks! It is a single-SNP subclade, defined by the SNP BY142197. This may change when another Y-700 or WGS test is added to the subclade.  E-BY142197 looks to be the oldest known subclade of E-Z36149, with a TMRCA of c. 650 ybp, which is the same as its phylogenetic parent and grandparent. It is unlikely that it is quite that old, given that some generations would have had to exist between E-Z36149 and E-BY142197's respective MRCAs, but we can assume that this was an early split-off from the root.  The subclade is associated primarily with th...

New Subclade Announcement: E-FT34550

Image
We are happy to announce the acceptance of a new subclade by YFull! The new subclade is E-FT34550, and it is downstream E-FT33868.  Many thanks to the two Big Y testers whose kits are now defining the new subclade for their patience and support of the project! It is a single SNP subclade, defined by the mutation FT34550. YFull's estimate for the Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor (TMRCA) of this subclade is only 50 years, based on the fact that neither kit has any novel SNPs. We have the benefit of having trees back into the late 1700s for these two lines, with genealogical no connection in sight. It's likely that FT34550 occurred sometime in the early to mid 1700s, with these two lines branching off before any genealogically pertinent information could be saved.  This subclade is associated with groups C01  in the Y-DNA results page  here , along with its siblings in the E-FT33868 subclade.  The geographic situation for this subclade is an interesting one. As ...

New Subclade Announcement: E-FT33868

We are very excited to announce the recognition of new subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-FT33868, and it is downstream E-Y17357. This subclade has been on FTDNA for sometime as E-A20849. However, because YFull did not accept A20849 or its phyloequivalent SNPs, the subclade was never added to YFull's haplotree. After multiple E-A20849 members upgraded to the Big Y-700, we discovered that there was another phyloequivalent SNP to the subclade: FT33868. This SNP was accepted by YFull and thus it is a single SNP subclade, defined only by FT33868. With a total of 5 kits, YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this subclade is approximately 425 years ago. This is a well-dated subclade and is only slightly younger than its parent E-Y17357. The five kits at E-Y17357~ on YFull are likely in E-FT33868 as well but do not have the Big Y-700 and thus do not have positive reads for the SNP.  This subclade is primarily associated with group C02  and C11  in the Y-DNA ...

A New Subclade Announcement unlike all the others: E-FT41690

Image
We are extremely happy to announce the recognition of another subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-FT41690, and it has split multiple subclades downstream E-Y18621.  E-FT41690 is a subclade unlike all the others because it is defined by a SNP that was not found by Family Tree DNA's old Big Y and Big Y-500 tests, but rather in its new Big Y-700 test. That means that all Big Y tests before Big Y-700 did not even look at the location where the SNP FT41690 exists. What E-FT41690 has done has split around half of the subclades that were under E-Y18621. See here what E-Y18621 looked like before the E-FT41690 split. Now, see how E-FT41690 changes E-Y18621. Subclades E-Y135415, E-A18889, E-A16692, and E-A12255 have now been found to be downstream E-FT41690, and we have also identified someone who is E-FT41690*. The age estimate for E-FT41690 is the same as its parent E-Y18621: 1050 years before present, or 950 CE. This is a well-tested date within E-Y14891/AB-005...

New Subclade Announcement: E-A21058

We are proud to announce the recognition of another subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-A21058, and it is downstream E-Y18621. Many thanks to our three Big Y testers whose kits are now defining the new subclade at YFull. Thanks also to another researcher who helped confirm the SNP A21058 at YFull.  It is a one SNP subclade defined by the mutation A21058.  YFull's age estimate with these three kits is 500 ybp. This appears to be a good estimate as the three kits all have similar numbers of novel SNPs.  This subclade is primarily associated with group  D63  in the Y-DNA results page  here . If your kit is in this group, and you would like to confirm that you are positive for the SNPs defining this subclade, please send an admin an email.  Looking at the geographic spread of members in E-A21058, this subclade seems to be centered around Poland and Ukraine. There is also someone with a paternal origin in Hungary. Its age and cur...

New Subclade Announcment: E-Y134153

We are happy to announce the discovery of a new subclade and its addition to YFull! The new subclade is E-Y134153, and it is downstream E-A12313/E-A12255.  Thanks to the two Big Y testers whose kits are now defining the new subclade! It is a one SNP subclade, defined by the mutation Y134153. This mutation is also called A20729.  YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this particular subclade is approximately 375 years ago, one hundred years later than the TMRCA of its parent E-A12313/E-A12255. Due to the amount of testing within E-A12313/E-A12255, this is likely a good estimate.  This subclade is associated with groups  DA51 and DA52  in the Y-DNA results page  here , along with its siblings in the E-A12313/E-A12255 subclade.  Both members of this subclade trace their paternal lines from Lithuania. It is unknown if their common ancestor lived in Lithuania as well, or rather further west in accordance with other indications from its s...

New Subclade Announcement: E-Y182211

We are enthused to announce the recognition of another subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-Y182211, and it is downstream E-Y18621. Many thanks to the two Big Y testers whose kits are now defining the new subclade at YFull. It is a five SNP subclade defined by the mutations Y182211, Y182212, Y182213, Y182214, and Y182215. These are also called FT157343, FT157624, FT157038, FT157874, and FT157794 respectfully. With these two kits, YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this subclade is approximately 275 years ago. This is quite recent, and hopefully we will find candidates to split some of these SNPs into a new subclade.  This subclade is primarily associated with group  D62  in the Y-DNA results page  here . If your kit is in this group, and you would like to confirm that you are positive for the SNPs defining this subclade, please send an admin an email.  Looking at the geographic origins of the two Big Y testers, we have one from Czech...

New Subclade Announcement: E-Y107937

After a short break, we are excited to announce the recognition of another subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-Y107937, and it is downstream E-A15856. Many thanks to our two Big Y testers whose kits are now defining the new subclade at YFull. It is a one SNP subclade defined by the mutation Y107937.  With these two kits, YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this subclade is approximately 600 years ago. As this is the same age as its parent E-A15856, it is likely that this subclade was formed quite quickly after its parent. This is normally indicative of a short period of large population growth.  This subclade is primarily associated with group  D11 and secondarily with D02  in the Y-DNA results page  here . If your kit is in this group, and you would like to confirm that you are positive for the SNPs defining this subclade, please send an admin an email.  According to the countries of origin for members of E-A15856, this subcla...

New Subclade Announcement: E-Y145773

We are happy to announce the discovery of a new subclade and its addition to YFull! The new subclade is E-Y145773, and it is downstream E-A12313/E-A12255.  Both members defining this subclade have been very helpful in their contributions to the project. Many thanks! It is a two-SNP subclade, defined by the SNPs Y145773 and A24460/FT58200 YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this particular subclade is approximately 450 years ago, equal to the TMRCA of its parent E-A12313/E-A12255. Due to the relatively recent split of this subclade, this may be a good estimate, though more recent testing of A12313+ members is needed for a more accurate age estimate.   This subclade is associated with groups  D51 and D52  in the Y-DNA results page  here , along with its siblings in E-A19388 and E-A12313*.  The two members of this subclade trace their paternal lines from Poland and Ukraine. Due to the age of this subclade, and the relation of that ...

New Subclade Announcement: E-Y140463

I am personally very excited to announce the recognition of new subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-Y140463, and it is downstream E-Y17226.  Many thanks to the other Big Y tester, his admin, and Judy & Igor for helping me order my Big Y! It is a single SNP subclade, defined by the SNP Y140463. With both kits, YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this subclade is approximately 500 years ago. Given the value spread for genetic distances within this group, this may be a good estimate, though more testing is needed to confirm.  This subclade is associated with group  B21, B22, and B99  in the Y-DNA results page  here . If your kit is in one of these groups, and you would like to confirm that you are positive for the SNP defining this subclade, please send an admin an email.  According to the countries of origin for project members in group B21 and B22, this subclade looks to be primarily centered around Poland, with many members...

New Subclade Announcement: E-BY192463

We are excited to announce the recognition of new subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-BY192463, and it is downstream E-Y17226. Thanks to our two Big Y testers for their support and patience.  It is a two SNP subclade, defined by the SNPs BY192463 and BY192625.  With these two kits, YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this subclade is approximately 600 years ago. Given the small number of potenial clade-mates, this may be a fairly accurate prediction.  This subclade is associated with group  B12  in the Y-DNA results page  here . If your kit is in this group, and you would like to confirm that you are positive for the SNPs defining this subclade, please send an admin an email.  According to the countries of origin for project members in group B12, this subclade seems to be unlike most other subclades in the project. With origins in Bessarabia, Romania, and Hungary, it appears to be affiliated more with the earlier Ashkenazi...

New Subclade Announcement: E-FGC71938

We are excited to announce the recognition of another subclade by YFull! The subclade is called E-FGC71938, and it is downstream E-Z36149. Many thanks to our Big Y tester and the FGC Y-Elite tester whose kits are now defining the new subclade at YFull. It is a three SNP subclade, including the SNPs FGC71938, FGC71940, and FGC71943.  With these two kits, YFull's age estimate for the TMRCA of this subclade is approximately 600 years ago. More testing is needed to get a more refined age estimate.  This subclade is associated with group A70 in the Y-DNA results page here . If your kit is in this group, and you would like to confirm that you are positive for the SNPs defining this subclade, please send an admin an email.  According to the countries of origin for project members in group A70, this subclade seems to be centered around the more Eastern countries of Poland, Belarus, and especially Ukraine. This contrasts with the origin of most other Z36149+ p...
